Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) Anne Chiverall has been recognised with the 2026 MSH Lifetime Achievement Award, acknowledging her long‑standing contribution to surgical services, patient care and workforce development at QEII Hospital.
Anne has worked in nursing for more than 40 years, joining QEII in 1988 and later serving 17 years as Nurse Unit Manager of Ward 2A. She moved into the Surgical Services CNC role in 2023 after holding several key leadership positions during the height of the COVID‑19 pandemic, including establishing the hospital’s vaccination hub.
In her current position, she supports surgical outlier patients, assists Nurse Unit Managers, leads audits and education, and contributes to safety and quality initiatives across the division. Her successful award nomination highlighted her consistent leadership, clinical expertise and influence on team culture.
The Lifetime Achievement Award also recognises her sustained impact on surgical services and the many nurses she has mentored throughout her career. Colleagues describe her as calm under pressure and committed to supporting both staff and patients.
When asked what makes a good leader, Anne said being kind to self and others is key.
"Self-care is first and foremost; without that you cannot support your team or other colleagues.
"Be present every day. Know your team and support and guide their passion. Happy staff, happy workplace - that makes a leader's job less stressful."
Anne says her focus has always been on getting the basics right in day‑to‑day care and maintaining a cohesive workplace.
"I aim to make a difference in a colleague or a patient’s day and the rest falls into place."
Congratulations Anne on this significant recognition!
