Metro South Health hosted its first Research and Innovation Roundtable, taking an important step in strengthening research and innovation across the region.
The event brought together partners from across the health, research and education sectors, including TRI, BRIJ, HTQ, CSIRO, Mater Research, and leading Queensland universities, all with a shared goal of improving healthcare for our communities.
Chief Research and Innovation Officer, Associate Professor Helen Benham, said the roundtable focused on how research and innovation can be better built into everyday care.
“This roundtable was about moving from strategy to shared action,” she said.
“By working as one ecosystem, we can scale research and innovation in ways that genuinely improve care for our communities.
“This is about ensuring good ideas don’t stay small.
“By aligning our efforts, we can translate research into better care sooner.”
The goal is to become a 'learning healthcare system' – one that uses data, research and lived experience to learn, improve and deliver better patient outcomes.
Key topics included digital and data systems, clinical trials, mental health, chronic disease, ageing, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.
Ideas included improving shared digital tools, creating clearer career pathways between research and clinical care, and improving ethics and governance processes.
The roundtable marked a shift from planning to action and confirmed a shared commitment to learning, adapting and improving care together.
