Metro South Health has reinforced its position as a leader in digital innovation by hosting the second Queensland AI in Healthcare Symposium.
Bringing together artificial intelligence (AI) experts, clinicians, digital teams and partners from across Queensland, the symposium focussed on the breadth of AI, from policy implications to real-world case studies of its use in clinical care.
Chief Clinical Information Officer Stephen Canaris said the event attracted more than 1,000 delegates.
“This is testament to the growing interest we’re seeing in AI and its applications across all aspects of healthcare delivery,” Stephen said.
“We had a packed program including three expert keynote speakers, discussions on governance, ethical considerations and workforce readiness, as well as research case studies on how AI is already being used across Queensland.
“Metro South Health is proud to be driving the agenda of the safe and effective use of AI in healthcare.”
The symposium also reflected Metro South Health’s ambition to lead in the AI space by building the right foundations to support its use.
“We want to take a very deliberate approach – to encourage innovation, where it clearly benefits patients, our workforce and is safe to use,” Stephen said.
“That means putting strong governance and ethical frameworks in place, investing in high-quality data, collaborating with key industry and academic partners and making sure our workforce has the knowledge and confidence to use these tools effectively.
“We’ve already been piloting high-value, practical tools such as the ambient AI scribe for clinical documentation, with a view to building more advanced uses and scaling across our organisation as capability grows.”
