Logan Hospital’s state-leading Transit Care Hub (TCH) has reached another milestone, with the education team recently delivering its first dedicated education workshop.

The workshop gave TCH staff protected time away from the ward to complete mandatory training while also taking part in Visual Enhanced Simulation and hands-on skills education.

The day focused on supporting the TCH’s unique Model of Care, which helps preserve hospital bed capacity, improve patient flow and provide timely access to procedures through nurse-led care.

Staff were upskilled across a range of procedures regularly performed in TCH, including large volume paracentesis, lung biopsies, renal biopsies and iron infusions for GEMITH patients.

Nurse Unit Manager Shelly Smalley said these services helped patients access treatment sooner while avoiding unnecessary inpatient admissions.

“Alongside the clinical education, the workshop also provided a valuable opportunity for team building and collaboration,” she said. “The dedicated education team continues to play an important role in supporting staff development, ensuring the sustainability of the TCH Model of Care while maintaining high standards of patient safety and care.”

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with more workshops planned for the future.
