The diverse community and workforce that makes up Logan Hospital was on full display at recent Multicultural Queensland Month celebrations.
A bright display of colour and traditional dress, the event was an opportunity to recognise the many cultures, languages, faiths and lived experiences that are represented across Logan and Beaudesert Health Service (LBHS).
It was also a chance to showcase the health service's commitment to improving access to equitable healthcare as it continues to evolve with the changing needs of the community.
Our Multicultural Hospital Liaison Officers who led the event with their Health Equity and Access Team (HEAT) colleagues, said our diversity was one of our greatest strengths.
“Diversity enriches our workplace, strengthens our understanding of the communities we serve and helps us deliver better care,” they said. “It helps us better understand the communities we serve and reminds us that providing good healthcare means understanding and respecting each person as an individual.”
While the focus of the celebration was on learning from one another and striving to create a place where everyone felt welcome, HEAT acknowledged there was still more work to be done to improve health equity.
“Health equity is about ensuring that every person receives care that is respectful, culturally responsive and tailored to their needs. It is about creating an environment where people feel safe, understood and valued,” they said. “This responsibility belongs to all of us. Whether we support patients at the bedside, in clinics, behind the scenes or in the community, every interaction matters. Every conversation is an opportunity to build trust, understanding and connection.”
