Clinical staff and patients are benefitting from the use of AI across Metro South Health, after the largest national rollout of AI scribe in June.
The digital implementation is offering less screen time and more face time with reported improvements in clinician wellbeing and patient communication.
Following a successful trial in 2025, Metro South Health is working with Heidi to implement its AI scribe across the health service to help with note-taking during patient consults.
Ambient AI scribe listens to the consultation, securely captures the details and creates documentation, saving doctors an average of 59 minutes a day and allowing them to focus on patients.
Dr Julian Wong, an emergency department specialist at the busy Logan Hospital, said that reviewing notes for accuracy was much quicker and easier than typing out notes for every patient.
“Doctors and clinicians spend hours doing documentation - the scribe has given us time back to spend with our patients.
“Connecting with patients is one of the most important parts of healthcare and ensures we are delivering the highest standard of care.”

Dr Wong said the trial had seen a significant improvement in reported staff wellbeing for those who were using AI Scribe.
92 per cent of clinicians reported they spent less time doing administration during the trial.
“We’re excited to extend the tool for use across our health service, with many staff already reaching out, asking to get involved.”

Georgie Hynes (33) from Alexandra Hills said she valued the face-to-face connection in clinic with her doctor.
“I really felt listened to,” she said. “I forgot the AI scribe was even there, and you can see how helpful it is to the clinicians.”
