Logan Hospital’s surgical wards have marked a ‘grand reopening’ following a realignment of patient cohorts across the unit.
Wards 2G, 2H and 2I have returned to a ‘home ward’ model where patients are allocated based on their surgery type rather than their expected length of stay.
This shift supports more streamlined, consistent and specialised care.
Under the new model:
- Ward 2G now cares for Gastroenterology and Gynaecology surgical patients
- Ward 2H supports General surgical, Colorectal, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), and Maxillofacial surgical patients
- Ward 2I is dedicated to Orthopaedic and Perioperative Medicine surgical patients
Assistant Nursing Director Chloe Ryan said the 'reopening' recognised the ongoing growth and evolution of the unit.
“The Surgical Inpatient Unit has expanded in line with the changing needs of our community,” she said. “Over the past 12 months we have seen the addition of a third surgical ward and increased bed capacity by an additional 24 beds. The restructure of the wards was the next step in the unit’s evolution.”
Chloe said the celebration was also an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication of the teams who supported the change.
“Our nursing teams were paramount in advocating for their patients and colleagues, helping to design the new models and championing their implementation,” she said.
As the Surgery and Critical Care Service Line (S&CC) continues to grow, more exciting developments are expected with the completion of Phase 2 of the Logan Hospital Expansion.
“It’s an exciting season of growth for the entire S&CC team.”
