Families visiting loved ones at Logan Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit now have a more comfortable place to sit, reflect, and spend time together thanks to a generous donation from the Rotary Club of Beenleigh.
Former Club President Janee and her husband Allan worked with the Palliative Care team to arrange for beautiful new lounges to be installed outside the unit.
The couple have a very special connection to the Palliative Care team after they cared for Janee’s father in 2017.
Since then, Janee and Allan have stayed in touch with the team and regularly looked for ways to support the ward and Logan Hospital.
Their latest contribution also included new outdoor furniture for the Pal Care Garden, which Janee, Allan and other Club members recently helped give a mini makeover.
The new and refreshed spaces provide patients and families with somewhere comfortable and welcoming to spend time together, just steps from the ward.
Palliative Care NUM Jodie Goodwin said the generosity of Janee and Allan had made a meaningful difference to families spending precious time with their loved ones, as well as to the team.
“It’s wonderful to be able to provide such a nice space for our patients and their families,” she said.
“Visiting a loved one as they receive end-of-life care is very hard and we wanted to ensure our families had somewhere comfortable to step out of the ward and regroup, without having to be too far away.”
The colour of the new lounges was also thoughtfully chosen to complement the striking First Nations artwork displayed outside the unit, helping create a welcoming and culturally safe space for patients and families.
