Logan's Bijo Jose was awarded 2025 Nurse of the Year

This year’s Logan Hospital Nurse of the Year has been awarded to Bijo Jose, a humble yet deeply compassionate nurse from Ward 2M.

Describing the recognition as unexpected and meaningful, Bijo said he viewed the award as something shared with his entire team.

"Being named Nurse of the Year is not just about recognition, but a reminder of why I chose this path," Bijo said. "It also says so much about the beautiful team I work with in Ward 2M. We stand by each other through the hardest and most rewarding moments. This award belongs to all of us."

Over the past year, one quiet but powerful moment that reaffirmed Bijo’s calling to nursing came when he offered comfort to a lonely patient through small gestures of care.

He said he spent time with the patient, offered reassurance, and made a simple cup of tea.

Before discharge, the patient thanked him for making him feel like he mattered.

Bijo said it was a reminder that nursing was not just about medicine but about the human connection offered in the quietest ways.

“People often do not realise how powerful it is just to be there, to see someone, to sit with them, to listen without rushing.

“Those quiet moments, like a hand on a shoulder, remembering a name, or calming someone's fears, can bring more healing than any medicine. It is the part of nursing people rarely see, but it often makes all the difference.”

When asked what advice he would give to those starting out in nursing, Bijo said to always lead with kindness and never be afraid to ask for help.

"Nursing will challenge you, not just physically but emotionally, but it will also grow you," he said. "The smallest gestures can mean the most. Even when a shift feels ordinary to you, it could be life-changing for someone else." Congratulations Bijo!
