Logan's anaesthetic team are getting behind a sustainability initiative

Throughout June, staff at Logan Hospital are contributing ideas for a greener future through the ‘Ideas Tree’ initiative, led by Consultant Anaesthetist Dr Neelima Gandham and her team.

With each new suggestion added, the digital tree continues to grow, reflecting a shared commitment to sustainability.

Hosted on Microsoft Whiteboard, the initiative is one of several ways the hospital is supporting Metro South’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

Dr Gandham said she hoped to see the Ideas Tree fully flourishing by the end of World Environment Month.

“Our hospitals and healthcare practices have a significant environmental footprint. By making small, practical and sustainable changes to our daily routines, both in clinical areas and across our broader community, we can create a healthier environment for everyone,” she said.

She encouraged staff to think through how their ideas could be implemented.

“What is your idea for environmental sustainability in our hospital or community? For example, reducing blue wrap waste in theatres, improving battery recycling, or establishing a community garden. Why is it needed? What impact would it have? When could it be implemented? And how could we make it happen?”
