Women seeking support for pelvic health concerns can now access Logan’s Pelvic Health Clinic at Meadowbrook Health Centre, with patients embracing the modern and bright new facility and easy parking.
The move to Meadowbrook marks the latest chapter in a service that has been helping women access earlier, specialised pelvic health support for 10 years.
Established at Logan Hospital in 2016, the physiotherapy-led clinic was developed to treat patients sooner, while they waited to see a medical specialist.
Today, the clinic sees up to 12 patients each day, supporting individuals with a range of pelvic health concerns and helping them develop strategies to manage their symptoms, improve their quality of life and achieve their goals.
Senior Physiotherapist Leila Jobson said the service had continued to evolve over the past decade, alongside growing awareness of pelvic health and more women seeking help.
“More people are seeking help generally, and we’re seeing women who are ready to come in, have an assessment and start working towards improving their symptoms,” she said.
The clinic’s approach puts women at the centre of their care, with treatment tailored to what each patient wants to achieve.
“Our focus is really on patient-led intervention, improving quality of life and helping women achieve their goals,” Leila said.
The service also gives women the opportunity to explore conservative treatment options early in their care, helping them understand their choices and make informed decisions about their treatment.
This can be particularly important for women who may feel embarrassed discussing pelvic health concerns or who believe symptoms such as incontinence or prolapse are simply a normal part of ageing or having children.
But Leila said this doesn’t have to be the case.
“Seek help early. It’s never too late and you’re never too old. You can make a change,” she said.
Over the past decade, the Pelvic Health Clinic has evolved to include treating women and men as well as receiving referrals from colorectal, gastroenterology, urology, urogynaecology, gynaecology, obstetrics and GPs.
