The Speech Pathology team put their new scrubs to good use recently, challenging colleagues to spot and name as many speech pathology-related items as they could.
The game of I spy was just one of the challenges in the team’s Speech Pathology Week Communication Quest, a fun and interactive way to give staff a glimpse into the diverse work of speech pathologists.
This year’s Speech Pathology Week theme, Communication Creates Possibility, highlighted the important role communication played in helping people learn, connect, make choices, participate and belong.
Staff cracked the code using the International Phonetic Alphabet, tested their knowledge of IDDSI diet codes, sampled modified fluids and took on Mixed Messages, exploring some of the communication barriers people can experience every day.
Speech Pathologist Eve Beattie-Zarb said the activities offered a fun way to learn more about the role of speech pathologists, and their role in supporting people of all ages with communication and swallowing needs.
"A big thank you to everyone who joined the Communication Quest, embraced the challenges and helped celebrate the amazing work of our Speech Pathology team," she said.
