A new video developed by Logan Hospital is helping give Muslim patients greater confidence in the halal meals offered during their stay.
Created by the Health Equity and Access Team (HEAT) in partnership with Food Services, the video shows each stage of halal food preparation - from sourcing ingredients to storage, handling and serving.
Multicultural Resource and Training Officer Sandrine Dinevan said the Muslim community was one of the largest cultural groups cared for at Logan Hospital.
“The video is an important step towards building trust and strengthening cultural safety within this community,” she said.
While halal meals are already offered at the hospital, consumer feedback revealed reduced confidence in the menu due to limited resources explaining preparation practices.
Sandrine said the new video addressed these concerns by providing transparent information and reassurance.
Director of the Slacks Creek Mosque Imam Akram Buksh endorsed the initiative and appeared in the video to further assure patients that the hospital was meeting halal guidelines.
The video will be rolled out across the hospital before the end of the year, adding to the growing list of quality improvement initiatives delivered by HEAT and Logan Hospital.
“By partnering with consumers and being transparent about practices, the hospital is taking meaningful steps toward delivering care that is safe, respectful, and inclusive for all,” Sandrine said.
