Nurse Educator Allison Brown has been recognised for her commitment to compassionate, culturally sensitive care following a meaningful interaction with a grieving family late last year.
When unforeseen circumstances put a planned cultural ceremony at risk on Boxing Day, Allison stepped into the Mortality Review role - despite having no prior experience - to ensure the family’s wishes could be honoured.
Her actions in that moment, along with her ongoing dedication to patient-centred care, earned her both a nomination and the Compassion Award.
Allison said receiving the Compassion Award highlighted the importance of keeping kindness and empathy at the heart of healthcare.
“In a world where healthcare can sometimes feel very clinical, fast-paced, and more and more digital, an award for compassion reminds me that the human element of care is what truly makes a difference,” she said.
“It’s an honour to be acknowledged for bringing that to the forefront of my nursing practice.”
Her actions were deeply appreciated by the family and reflected her commitment to compassionate, culturally sensitive care.
“It was a meaningful experience,” Allison said. “It reminded me that stepping up and showing care in unfamiliar situations can have a powerful impact.”
