Around ten years ago patient Sandra Kruik became the first patient to access the infusion service at Beaudesert Hospital.

In a full circle moment, the Scenic Rim local became the first patient to try out the hospital’s brand-new infusion chairs.

Sandra, who attends the hospital for a four-hour infusion every four weeks, said while her care had always been excellent, the new chairs had taken her treatment experience to a whole new level.

“Being able to adjust the leg rest and back support, and even lie down, means I don’t finish my sessions in pain anymore. It’s made such a difference.”

Sandra was also quick to praise Patient Journey Coordinator and Clinical Nurse Karen Wykamp for her dedication in securing the chairs and expressed heartfelt thanks to the Auxiliary volunteers.

“This is an incredible gift to patients like me. Their kindness and effort mean so much.”

Karen also extended a heartfelt thank you to the Auxiliary and said it wasn't just the patients who would benefit from the new chairs.

“The chairs can be raised to the clinician’s height, helping protect our nurses from awkward positions during dressings, cannula insertions, and accessing PICC lines,” she said. “They’re also far more comfortable for patients who may need to sit for up to six hours, especially those who lose strength due to their conditions.”

The chairs will be used by day therapy patients receiving infusions and those attending for wound care. They can also be quickly adjusted for CPR in an emergency.

“I’m so excited to have these chairs. They’ll make a real difference to patient comfort, safety, and care, and that’s what matters most,” Karen said.
