For Amanda Cox, nursing has always been more than a career - it’s a calling.
“I never wanted to be anything else,” she said.
Amanda began her nursing journey in Wilcannia, far west NSW in 2003, and has since worked across a range of hospitals and specialties, including Broken Hill Base, Maitland, and the John Hunter Hospital.
After moving to Queensland in 2016, she joined the Logan Hospital Endoscopy Unit and, over the past three years, has gained valuable leadership experience through several Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) backfill roles.
Ready for a new challenge and a place to put down roots, Amanda recently joined Beaudesert Hospital as NUM of the general ward and Palan Creek Correctional Centre.
“I needed a home - a place to settle and continue to learn and grow,” she said. “Rural facilities are unique; no two days are the same. I love the variety, the close-knit team, and the strong community focus. It feels like home to me.”
Looking ahead, Amanda is eager to embrace the opportunities her new role brings. “BDH is so much more than I expected, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds. I’m excited to continue learning from the team, supporting nurses to work to the top of their scope, and helping deliver exceptional patient care.”
And as a bonus, she adds with a smile, “The drive to Palen Creek Correctional Centre is pretty cool too.”
