At Metro South Health, we’re committed to making our workplaces and services fair, inclusive and respectful for everyone. Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (EDI) Action Plan 2025–2028 [PDF 921.5 KB] outlines how we will support our diverse staff and communities.

This plan is part of our wider Strategic Plan 2024-2028. It helps us take real, meaningful steps to build a more inclusive health system—one that reflects and supports the people we serve.

What this means for our staff and community

We’re working to:

  • build a workforce that reflects the diversity of our community
  • support and celebrate different cultures, backgrounds and abilities
  • remove barriers that make it hard for people to access care or grow at work
  • make sure everyone feels safe, valued and respected.

Priorities for 2025 to 2028

We’re taking action in six key areas:

1. First Nations employment

  • Expand programs like Deadly Starts, cadetships and mentoring
  • Create strong, culturally safe career pathways
  • Increase support and opportunities for First Nations men
  • Build a First Nations Staff Network.

2. Disability inclusion

  • Use anonymous staff surveys to make it safer to share disability status
  • Support leadership pathways for people with disability
  • Make recruitment more inclusive and offer reasonable adjustments
  • Create a Disability Staff Network.

3. Gender equity and pay

  • Support leadership development for women in medical roles
  • Conduct transparent regular pay equity reviews
  • Support flexible work arrangements for senior levels.

4. CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) inclusion

  • Provide language support and cultural competency training
  • Help CALD staff grow into leadership roles
  • Celebrate diversity through cultural events and storytelling
  • Build a Multicultural Staff Network.

5. LGBTIQA+ inclusion

  • Expand LGBTIQA+ data collection and visibility
  • Develop allyship programs and inclusive policies
  • Create safe spaces and peer support networks
  • Build an LGBTIQA+ Staff Network.

6. Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) data

  • Promote EEO census completion
  • Improve data quality and participation
  • Enable anonymous reporting.
