QEII Hospital has become the first Metro South Health hospital to offer room service on demand, a move that means patients can stop dreaming about the food they want and simply order it straight off the menu.
QEII Food Service Dietitian Anita Mohanlal and Project Lead Karly Miller said the new model is designed to improve the patient dining experience and reduce food waste by empowering patients to order meals when they are ready to eat using the CBORD Patient App on their own device or phoning the onsite call centre from the bedside.
“With room service, meals are prepared and assembled to order rather than produced in bulk and held in advance, ensuring meals are only produced that will be eaten,” Karly and Anita said.
“We predict we will reduce plate waste by up to 50 per cent, all while making our meals more tailored to individual patient preferences.”
The new room service on demand menu includes all day breakfast options, snacks, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, hot mains, finger foods, side dishes, desserts, and hot and cold drinks for patients to sink their teeth into. Gluten free, vegetarian and vegan diets are also catered for.
