Five volunteers hold various instruments in a hospital ward
QEII volunteer singing group, The Troupe spread joy to patients and staff.

It’s always sunny at QEII Hospital, thanks to the dedication of beloved volunteer musicians, The Troupe.

With a remarkable combined age of 399 years and 10 instruments between them, The Troupe pack heart and soul into every performance, delighting QEII patients, visitors and staff with their talents.

Lead vocalist Willie says the group first found their rhythm in song eight years ago and haven't looked back since.

“We have the best job in the hospital, because we go home smiling every day,” he said.

“It’s a joy to play our music to all the patients, doctors, nurses and staff, and we always have a great time. Everybody appreciates what we do. We are happy when we see people smiling and their moods are lifted.”

Spreading joy and positivity across campus, The Troupe thrives on connecting with patients through music, sparking a sense of community, joy and nostalgia for many patients.

“When we sing, one of the patients know all the songs, and she sings along with us. She's so happy to do that.

“She might not remember who's coming to see her, but she remembers all the songs.”

Their shared passion for lifting the spirits of patients, visitors and staff has earned The Troupe a place on the shortlist for the 2025 Metro South Health Volunteers Award.

Congratulations to the whole team, and a huge thanks for all you do for the QEII community.

Troupe members: Willie Kee, Cesare Crispigni, Willie Seeto, Harry Kontutodjeng, and Rose Lee.
