4B staff receive a floral surprise for the festive season

Patients at QEII Hospital’s Ward 4B were in for a special surprise this month, after a past patient returned to spread Christmas cheer at the ward.

Just in time for the Christmas countdown, donor and Deputy Principal at a local school, Naveen had been inspired to give back after her own health journey had brought her to 4B just months earlier.

It was Naveen's second philanthropic visit to the ward since her stay this July, since hosting an all-staff morning tea just two weeks earlier.

“I felt compelled to express my appreciation in a tangible way,” Naveen explained.

“Throughout my career, I have always believed in demonstrating gratitude and empathy within the communities I work in, as these qualities are essential for everyone to thrive. It was truly heartwarming to see the joy it brought to the staff in Ward 4B,” she said.

Extending the Christmas spirit to the ward’s patients, Naveen returned with crates full of vibrant bouquets, complete with handwritten Christmas cards carefully curated by her students.

“Interacting with the patients was incredibly moving, as I shared my own experience as a patient in this ward,” said Naveen.

“Hearing the diverse perspectives of individuals on their unique journeys was enlightening. I hope these interactions and gestures have helped the patients build resilience and confidence during their most troublesome times.”

Nurse Unit Manager Ward 4B, Kelly Rose said the gift, inclusive of cards, pictures and Christmas greetings with get-well wishes, was a source of comfort and joy to those spending the festive season in hospital.

“All the patients loved the kind gesture including the cards made by Naveen’s students,” said Kelly.

“It's rewarding for staff to see patients return who are doing extremely well, given the exceptional care that is always provided by the whole multidisciplinary team here. That includes the staff in Day Therapy, which is where Naveen has continued her rehab.”

Shout-out to the whole 4B team for exemplifying the values of truly collaborative, patient-centred care.
