Acting Nurse Unit Manager Francis (Franc) Gilbert is passionate about supporting those around him in the Incentre Haemodialysis Unit, so they can provide the best possible care to patients.
Franc joined PAH in 2025 as a Clinical Facilitator and has since embraced a variety of opportunities that have seen him step into leadership positions across the organisation.
"There's a big focus on growth and opportunity here," he said.
"I've applied myself and that's been rewarded, but that's also because those opportunities exist."
His willingness to take on new challenges has paid off, though Franc is quick to credit those around him.
"I don't know everything, but there are resources surrounding me that I can lean on to teach me certain elements, help bolster me, and help me progress."
That focus on development is something Franc now strives to provide for others.
"I like to know how my staff operate, what their strengths are and what they want to do," he said.
"It's about facilitating opportunities that build them, and in turn, improve the treatment and care we provide to patients.”
The A/NUM was named the winner of the PAH Staff Award for September, recognised for his compassionate leadership, commitment to staff development and his ability to guide teams through change.
The nomination also highlighted his ability to recognise potential in staff and support their professional aspirations through mentorship and practical opportunities.
Despite moving away from direct patient care, Franc said his motivation remains the same.
"I like the challenge of shifting from patient care to helping staff, help patients," he said.
"You're still helping patients; it's just in a different way. You're building the resources and support that allow staff to provide the care patients need."
