High numbers of children and families utilise Minor Injury and Illnesses clinics

From minor illnesses to follow-up appointments, a range of services across Logan are helping close to 1600 families access the right care for their children every month.

Almost 7000 children received high-quality care closer to home and away from busy emergency departments at the Meadowbrook Minor Injury and Illness Clinic's during its first year.

The clinic is one of three services working in tandem with Logan Hospital to support the growing healthcare needs of children across the region.

A/Nursing Director and Facility Manager Emily Pickup said the Meadowbrook Minor Injury and Illness Clinic, Eight Mile Plains Satellite Health Centre and Mt Gravatt Nurse-led Walk-in Clinic collectively treated around 1600 children each month.

“These clinics play a valuable role in caring for children and providing families with alternative options for accessing care when they need it,” Emily said.

Earlier this year, Logan’s Paediatric Rapid Assessment Clinic (PRAC) moved to the Meadowbrook Health Centre, providing children and families with a calmer setting for follow-up appointments and freeing up clinical space within Logan Hospital's Children’s Emergency Department.

Emily said the relocation had also helped increase awareness of the Meadowbrook Minor Injury and Illness Clinic among local residents.

"As the community grows it is more important than ever for clinicians to continue to adapt and work together to ensure children can receive the right care in the right setting," she said.
