Clinicians like Dr Will Lane are spending less time typing clinical notes and more time talking to patients thanks to the rollout of Ambient AI Scribe across Metro South Health.
The innovative digital tool safely drafts clinic notes during patient consultations meaning there is more time for connected conversations.
Dr Lane started using the technology at Eight Mile Plains Satellite Health Centre earlier this year and hasn’t looked back.
He said one of the biggest benefits was being able to give patients his full attention without repeatedly switching between the conversation and his computer.
“My patients have responded very positively, with people I’ve seen on multiple occasions commenting that we’re able to have more thorough conversations,” he said.
Using Ambient AI Scribe is always optional and the technology is only used with the patient’s clear consent.
The software tool was introduced across Metro South Health earlier this year with clinicians jumping at the chance to utilise the scribe to improve patient experiences.
Following the early success of Ambient AI Scribe at Eight Mile Plains, clinicians are now exploring other, non-clinical uses for the technology.
A/Nurse Director and Facility Manager Emily Pickup said she had found it useful during recruitment, helping to streamline interview documentation and candidate feedback.
“It think it’s great! It saves time and produces thorough interview notes that assist with providing feedback to interviewed candidates, as well assisting with assessing for role suitability,” she said.
Both Dr Lane and Emily encouraged their colleagues to trial Ambient AI Scribe and see how it could enhance their work.
“At least trial it with a few patients and see the results,” Dr Lane said.
