Nursing and midwifery graduates from as far afield as Victoria poured through the doors of Logan Hospital for a closer look at the opportunities available to new graduates.

Among the eager attendees was Rhiannah Decrescenzo, who had flown up from Victoria specifically to attend.

With plans to relocate to the area next year to be closer to her parents, Rhiannah said she was hopeful about securing a position with Logan Hospital’s perioperative team.

"I’ve always been interested in periop, but coming to the Open Day broadened my interest in the variety of career paths available here," she said.

UQ student Danara Blom was also among those hopeful of securing a position.

Having previously completed her placement on Ward 7C, Danara said returning to Logan Hospital as a graduate would be a dream come true.

“It would be such a privilege to care for people in my own community,” she said.

The day offered attendees the chance to meet clinical staff, explore potential practice areas, and gain insight into the support and development available throughout the graduate year.

Nurse Educator Helen Maney described the day as a great success.

“It was wonderful to see so many eager graduating nurses and midwives exploring opportunities to complete their graduate program across Logan and Beaudesert Hospitals,” she said. “A massive shout-out must go to all the amazing staff who participated in the event. Their energy, willingness to answer questions, and the way they showcased their clinical areas truly highlighted what a great place Metro South is to work and begin your career.”

That sentiment was echoed in the feedback received from attendees, who expressed appreciation for the opportunity to speak directly with staff from a range of specialties.

"Many also found the advice on cover letters, applications, and interviews particularly helpful. Hands-on activities, ward tours, and the supportive atmosphere were frequently praised, with the day described as informative, engaging, and key to shaping future career decisions," Helen said.

With high energy, strong staff engagement, and genuine interest from attendees, the event was another reminder of Logan Hospital’s growing reputation as a destination of choice for the next generation of nurses and midwives.
