Patients in Logan Hospital’s Cardiac Care Unit and 5A have been receiving an extra dose of support thanks to the volunteers from Heart Health Qld Inc.

Since August 2025, the volunteers have been visiting patients three times a week, offering encouragement and practical advice for life after a heart event. The initiative is powered by a dedicated group of nine volunteers who spend time with patients and their families, sharing their own experiences and connecting them with community supports available once they leave hospital.

The program aims to help patients navigate the often-overwhelming transition from hospital care to recovery at home. Volunteers provide a listening ear and guidance on maintaining heart health, helping patients better understand the lifestyle changes and support networks that can assist their recovery.

Founded by Adrian and Lyn Lee-Archer, Heart Health Qld was established to provide ongoing support for people recovering from heart events and their carers.

Adrian, who experienced a heart attack in 2017, said he was motivated to create the organisation after recognising that many patients felt uncertain and isolated once they left hospital.

The organisation now offers a range of community supports including walking groups, educational talks and hospital visitations, helping people build confidence and connection during their recovery journey.

Through their regular visits to Logan Hospital, the volunteers are ensuring that patients know they are not alone and that support continues well beyond the hospital doors.
