Growing up, Logan Hospital Paediatric Emergency Department Director Dr Nandini Choudhury never seriously considered medicine and instead thought engineering was her destiny.
After one semester and a change to medicine, her true path was paved and since then “everything has made sense”.
“I knew I found my calling and I haven’t looked back since,” Dr Choudhury said.
“Working in emergency medicine is undeniably challenging, but it’s also one of the most fulfilling roles I’ve ever had.
“I genuinely love being part of a team - collaborating with skilled, compassionate colleagues to deliver the best possible care.
“There’s a unique camaraderie in emergency that comes from facing high-pressure situations together, and it’s something I deeply value.”
Dr Choudhury said there was a lot to love about emergency medicine, including the opportunity to constantly learn.
“Every day in emergency is different. I enjoy the dynamic nature of the work, the fast decision-making, and the opportunity to help people during some of the most critical moments of their lives.
“Being able to make a meaningful difference, even in small ways, is incredibly rewarding.
“I also find the diagnostic process fascinating - piecing together clinical clues to uncover what’s really going on. It’s like solving a puzzle, and it challenges me to stay sharp and curious.”
Asked what inspires her every day – being told no.
“I’ve always found that it’s the challenge, the pushback, the moments of uncertainty that drive me to grow, improve, and prove what’s possible.
“Looking back, it’s the times I was thrown into the deep end in my career were the moments I grew the most.
“Those experiences stretched me, tested me, and ultimately shaped me into who I am today.
“It’s in those high-pressure, sink-or-swim situations that I’ve discovered my resilience and found the motivation to keep striving for better.”
Dr Choudhury said knowing she could make a difference in other peoples lives every day was always an ongoing motivation.
“It’s a career that makes you look forward to coming to work, knowing that what you do truly matters.
“And working at Logan Hospital I’m surrounded by passionate, supportive, and dedicated colleagues who genuinely care about each other and the work we do.
“There’s a strong sense of teamwork and camaraderie that makes even the most challenging days feel manageable.
“It’s inspiring to be part of a team that shows up every day with compassion, resilience, and a shared commitment to making a difference.”
