Staff, patients and visitors at Eight Mile Plains Satellite Health Centre were both shocked and delighted when ‘Piper Joe’ paraded through the facility playing The Scottish Soldier earlier this week.
The amazing (and loud) performance marked the start of first birthday celebrations for the facility, which opened its doors one year ago.
Service Line Director of Emergency and Clinical Support Jane McLean, and Acting Facility Manager Carolann O’Donnell, joked that the bagpiper was a natural choice, given their proud Scottish roots.
Jokes aside, the Eight Mile Plains Satellite Health Centre had thousands of reasons to celebrate.
Over the past year, the facility has hosted a community open day, welcomed multiple VIPs - including both the former and current Health Ministers - and undergone a name change. Most importantly, it has helped bring healthcare closer to home for thousands of locals.
Jane said the number of people who had accessed 'brilliant' care at the facility was phenomenal.
“The Minor Injury and Illness Clinic has cared for 28,354 patients,” she said.
“A further 7,176 kidney dialysis and 3,892 chemotherapy treatments have been delivered, and 5,219 outpatient appointments attended.”
“What’s beautiful about this place is how it works together, with every single staff member being superb since day one.”
Happy Birthday Eight Mile Plains Satellite Health Centre and congratulations to all involved in such a successful first year.
