Eve Beattie-Zarb recently transitioned from student to new graduate at Logan Hospital thanks to a dedicated Allied Health career pathway.
The Speech Pathologist credits the continuity of her pathway as a key factor in her growth.
Eve completed clinical placements with the Metro South Health Rehab@Home team in 2024, followed by a second placement with the PAH acute speech pathology team. She then progressed to a HP1 Trainee position at Logan Hospital in 2025, before transitioning into her current new graduate role.
With each step of the four-year journey came a little more responsibility and independence, and exposure to both community and hospital settings.
Eve said this helped her build foundational clinical skills and broadened her understanding of patient care across different environments.
“The HP1 role was a daunting and pivotal step between study and full professional practice,” Eve said.
With the support of experienced clinicians, she began managing her own caseload, contributing to patient care, and strengthening her clinical reasoning in a real-world setting.
“It was so incredibly rewarding to start making clinical decisions and building my own caseload in such a supportive environment.”
Now working as a new graduate speech pathologist, Eve continues to build on this strong foundation.
“Being part of a familiar and supportive team has enabled me to confidently expand my skills, take on new challenges, and refine my practice,” Eve said.
Eve’s experience demonstrates the value of integrated career pathways within healthcare.
For students considering a career in speech pathology, Eve recommends keeping an open mindset - there is never a one size fits all approach.
“Every day will be different and every patient you see will need their own care,” she said.
“It’s a diverse and rewarding career where you can make a meaningful impact in people’s everyday lives.
“Be open to learning, ask questions, and make the most of the support around you. It’s a career where you keep developing over time, so being curious and reflective goes a long way.
“And remember to value the small wins, they can be just as meaningful as the big ones!”
