Staff at Redland Hospital are enjoying a small but thoughtful new initiative aimed at making their day just that little bit easier.

“Bathroom baskets” are popping up in bathrooms across the hospital - stocked by staff and including practical items like mints, deodorant and moisturiser.

Emergency Department Nurse Ray Palmer has taken on the task of restocking the Emergency Department baskets, ensuring the items remain available for colleagues working in a fast-paced environment.

“In the midst of a busy Emergency Department the bathroom baskets are a small way to relieve the mental load if you’ve forgotten to bring some essential items to work.

“If you find yourself in a pinch and forget to bring something from home then you can access the products at work,” he said.

Director of Nursing and Midwifery Amanda Garner said the baskets were one of many small acts making a difference to team morale.

“It’s a simple idea, but one that really shows we care for our staff,” she said.

Staff are encouraged to use the baskets as needed and to contribute items if they wish.

The initiative was developed by the Bayside Culture Club, the staff-led group focused on supporting positive workplace culture and staff wellbeing.

“This year we’ve had food trucks and celebration days, and the bathroom baskets are another creative way staff have come up to show appreciation for each other,” she said.
