Hello, and welcome.
Thank you for your interest in joining Metro South Health through our Enrolled Nurse, Registered Nurse and Midwife Talent Pool.
The Talent Pool provides a pathway for experienced nursing and midwifery professionals to be considered for permanent, temporary and casual opportunities across Metro South Health.
Today, I’ll explain what the Talent Pool is, how to apply, how applications are reviewed and what happens once you are assessed as suitable.
Before we begin, I would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waters on which we meet.
Metro South Health recognises and pays respect to the Yugambeh, Quandamooka, Jaggera, Ugarapul, Turrbal and Mununjali peoples, and to Elders past and present.
We acknowledge their ongoing connection to country, culture and community, and we thank them for sharing and caring for these lands for thousands of years.
During this presentation, we will introduce you to Metro South Health and explain how the Talent Pool works.
We’ll then take you through the candidate journey, including how to apply, how your application will be reviewed and how suitable candidates may be matched with workforce opportunities.
We’ll also explain what happens when a MSH Facility contacts you and how we will remain connected with you while you are in the Talent Pool.
Everything we do at Metro South Health supports our vision of creating Australia’s healthiest community.
Our purpose and values guide how we care for our patients, how we work with one another and how we make decisions.
As a member of our nursing and midwifery workforce, you will see these values reflected in everyday practice. They shape how we communicate, collaborate, provide safe care and create an inclusive workplace.
When preparing your application, consider how your own professional values and examples of practice align with Metro South Health.
Our priorities include improving health equity, embracing digital innovation, delivering excellent patient experiences, supporting research and innovation, and ensuring a sustainable future.
Most importantly, our values guide every interaction, decision and action we take. They create the culture that makes Metro South Health a great place to work and grow your career.
Metro South Health is one of Queensland's largest public healthcare providers.
We provide services across Brisbane's south side, Logan, Redlands and the Scenic Rim, operating major hospitals as well as community and specialised services.
There are three important things that make Metro South Health unique.
First is our commitment to patient-centred care. We work in partnership with patients and families and involve them in decisions about their care.
Second is our investment in professional excellence. Our nursing workforce is recognised through internationally respected programs including Magnet Recognition and Pathway to Excellence.
Third is our commitment to diversity and inclusion. We serve a diverse community and are proud that our workforce reflects the people we care for every day.
The Talent Pool journey has five main steps: apply, review, match, connect and move.
First, you submit an application that outlines your skills, experience and employment preferences.
The central team then reviews your application to determine your suitability for the Talent Pool.
If you are assessed as suitable, your profile may be matched with an available workforce opportunity.
When a potential match is identified, the relevant directorate will contact you to discuss the opportunity.
If both you and the service wish to proceed, you will move through the required employment and onboarding processes.
Let’s look at each step in more detail
The first step is to submit one complete application.
The Talent Pool is open to experienced Enrolled Nurses at NG3 and NG4, Registered Nurses at NG5 and Midwives who have at least 12 months of relevant experience.
You can locate the Metro South Health Talent Pool campaign through Smart Jobs or the Queensland Health Careers portal.
Before starting, read the campaign information carefully and check that you meet the eligibility and registration requirements.
Your application will include a current curriculum vitae and cover letter, a response addressing the domains of practice, responses to two selected questions and two referee reports.
Use recent examples that clearly demonstrate your clinical capability, teamwork and commitment to safe, person-centred care.
Before submitting, check that your contact details, employment preferences and availability are accurate. It is also important to contact your referees so they understand the role you are applying for and know that they may be contacted.
Once submitted, your application will move to the review stage.
The central team will use a consistent process to consider your eligibility, registration requirements, experience and alignment with the relevant role.
The team will also review the evidence you provide against the domains of practice, the quality and relevance of your written responses and the information provided by your referees.
Make it easy for the panel to understand your contribution. Clearly describe the situation, what you personally did, why you took that approach and what happened as a result.
Choose examples that answer the specific question and demonstrate the capability being assessed.
Candidates who meet the suitability requirements will enter the Talent Pool and may then be considered when an appropriate workforce opportunity becomes available.
Once you're in the Talent Pool, the matching process begins.
Matching is about aligning your profile with available workforce opportunities.
We consider factors such as:
- Your skills and experience.
- Preferred facilities.
- Preferred clinical areas.
- Employment preferences.
- Availability to commence.
At the same time, we consider organisational needs, including service requirements, required capabilities, roster needs and commencement dates.
The more flexible you can be regarding locations, specialties and employment arrangements, the greater the number of opportunities that may become available to you.
If a potential match is identified, the relevant directorate will contact you to discuss the opportunity.
This is a two-way conversation. The directorate will provide information about the facility, clinical area, role, anticipated duration, roster requirements and potential commencement date.
You will have the opportunity to discuss your availability and how your skills and experience may align with the role.
We encourage you to ask questions about the team, orientation, clinical support, roster expectations and any practical requirements that are important to you.
Please be open about your availability and any support you may require. This helps you and the service determine whether the opportunity is the right fit.
Being contacted about a position provides an opportunity for discussion. It does not require you to accept a role that does not suit your circumstances
If you and the directorate agree to progress the opportunity, you will move through the final steps towards commencement.
First, you will confirm your interest and availability.
You will then complete any required pre-employment checks. The team will provide the relevant employment documentation for you to review and complete.
Once these requirements are finalised, you will complete the required onboarding and prepare to commence in the role.
It is important to understand that acceptance into the Talent Pool confirms that you have been assessed as suitable. It does not guarantee an immediate placement, a particular facility or clinical area, set hours or ongoing employment.
Opportunities will depend on service requirements and whether an appropriate match becomes available during your time in the Talent Pool
Once you're deemed suitable, you'll remain in the Talent Pool for up to 12 months.
Throughout that period, Candidate Care will maintain regular monthly communication with you.
These updates help ensure your:
- Contact details remain current.
- Availability is accurate.
- Employment preferences are up to date.
We encourage you to proactively notify Candidate Care if anything changes between monthly check-ins.
The more accurate your information is, the easier it is for us to identify opportunities that align with your preferences and experience.
Thank you for your time today. We look forward to supporting you throughout your Metro South Health Talent Pool journey and helping connect you with future opportunities across our services.
That concludes today's presentation. Thank you for your interest in Metro South Health.
