Ward 2B has been recognised with QEII Hospital's quarterly Staff Team Award after heartfelt patient feedback highlighted the team's outstanding compassion, kindness and commitment to patient-centred care.
The nomination came from patient Mr Cullen, who took the time to share his gratitude following a recent admission, describing the care he received as exceptional.
At 62 years of age, Mr Cullen said he was deeply appreciative of the compassion shown by the nursing team throughout his stay, describing staff as caring, attentive and supportive.
After being discharged, he returned to Ward 2B to personally thank the team and even brought his grandson to show him where he had received what he described as "amazing care."
Mr Cullen also made special mention of Nurse Helianna Hirvonin, recognising her exceptional kindness, care and support during his admission.
Acting Nurse Unit Manager Annie Lam said the award was a proud moment for the entire team.
"It was really exciting because we all work really hard, and it's the teams' effort that makes it all possible."
She said the recognition reflects the strong culture that exists within Ward 2B, where staff consistently support one another to provide the best possible care for patients.
"Honestly, it's the people and the culture we have here on the ward. Any time we see someone struggling, we're always willing to lend a helping hand," she said.
"We always try to be there for each other. Our leadership really encourages that culture. We are very eager to support staff to help each other because it can be very fast paced here. To have that collegial support in providing care to our patients is amazing."
Annie said the team was particularly touched the award stemmed directly from patient feedback.
"The team absolutely loved getting the award,” she said.
"Getting that feedback from a patient, to know they can see how well we work together to deliver care is so validating."
