The QEII Hospital Expansion has reached a key milestone with the topping out ceremony of the new eight-level multi-level car park on Friday 1 May 2026.

The celebration marks the completion of the building’s primary structural concrete and is the final concrete pour on the QEII Hospital Expansion following the topping out of the new Clinical Services building in February 2026.

Located at the front of the campus along Kessels Road, the $137.33 million Queensland Government-funded car park will significantly boost parking capacity, delivering 1,379 additional spaces and providing easier and more secure parking for patients, visitors and staff.

Health Infrastructure Queensland said this milestone in the expansion of QEII Hospital is a key step in the construction program/delivering for Queensland.

“This multi-level car park plays a vital role in enabling the hospital expansion, supporting the new five-level Clinical Services building which provides additional beds, a new and expanded Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and additional surgical capacity,” said Blake Lepper, Deputy Director, Health Infrastructure Queensland.

The car park also supports active transport, with end-of-trip facilities and dedicated bicycle parking making QEII more accessible than ever to the local community.

A/Executive Director of QEII Hospital Julie Argus said the eight-level car park will provide a long-awaited solution to parking at the growing campus.

“QEII staff, patients and the local community have been so understanding throughout the works program with two busy construction sites underway – building both the new car park and the Clinical Services building. The momentum of this project milestone truly will boost excitement for our upcoming parking solution on campus,” Julie said.

“The multi-level car park will also include key accessibility and safety features with lift access, CCTV, help points connected to hospital security, and clear, safe walking routes throughout. QEII is truly taking on a new shape which is exciting for the community.”

Project Contractor Built Australia craned-in a lone pine to mark the topping out of the multi-level car park. The tree signifies an ode of respect towards the recent ANZAC commemorations across Queensland.

The partnership between Health Infrastructure Queensland, Metro South Health Service Expansion project team, and Built Australia has positively influenced the achievement of key milestones across the project.

The next major change to the skyline will be the removal of two cranes from the site in the coming months.
