The Heart Recovery Service (HRS) team has moved next door into a newly renovated gym space, and it’s already setting the pace.
The move made way for the necessary expansion of Pharmacy, but it has also given the HRS team a fresh new space to support patients through their recovery journey.
With a new exercise bar, mirrors and a refreshed environment, the gym stylishly supports the multidisciplinary team of nurses, physiotherapists and allied health professionals who deliver the HRS exercise and education program.
Senior Director for the PA Hospital Expansion, Noelene Herbert said the move was another example of how the PA Hospital Expansion is creating opportunities for services to adapt and make the most of their spaces.
“The Pharmacy expansion is an important part of the PA Hospital Expansion, and making room for this work has meant some services needed to move and adapt. It’s fantastic to see the Heart Recovery Service embracing this and settling into their renovated space.”
It’s a fresh space for the HRS team, but the same dedicated people and patient-centred care at the heart of everything they do.
The service provides care for both inpatients and outpatients recovering from heart attacks, cardiothoracic surgery and heart failure with care provided beyond the gym through bedside education, telephone follow-up, home visits and the Nurse Practitioner Clinic.
Associate Clinical Nurse Consultant, Heart Recovery Service, Bella Cole said the new gym provides a welcoming environment for patients as they work towards getting back to their everyday lives.
“Our gym is about so much more than exercise. It’s a place where patients can build their confidence, learn about their heart health and feel supported as they take the next steps in their recovery. The new space also gives us a fresh environment to continue doing what we love.”
During the recent PA Hospital Foundation Giving Day, existing and former HRS patients donated more than $20,000 to the service, an incredible demonstration of their appreciation for the care and support they received during their recovery.
