Redland Hospital graduate nurse Bree Meehan is one of many staff members preparing to join the newly built Amity Ward ahead of its opening next month.

Bree, who began her career in the hospital’s Transit Lounge, said she was excited to continue learning in a new environment.

“Working in the Transit Lounge taught me so much – every day was different,” Bree said. “It helped me develop strong skills and learn the importance of adaptability.

“My biggest piece of advice for new graduates is to make the most of your graduate
facilitators and the education team. They are there to support you and genuinely want to help you succeed during this important transition.”

Bree said she was looking forward to building on those skills in the new Amity Ward and that it had been exciting getting to know the team.

“We’re a diverse group with a wide range of experience, and I’m really looking forward to working alongside everyone and learning from them."

Bree said she was drawn to Redland Hospital by its strong sense of community and the opportunities for professional growth.

Nurse Unit Manager Mahmoud Nayfeh said the new Amity Ward team had hit the ground running and would bring care closer to home for Bayside patients.

“We’re so happy to be part of opening this purpose-built ward and to welcome both new and experienced staff into the space on a brand-new team is a great opportunity.

“It’s a fresh start for the team and a big achievement for us,” he said.

The Amity Ward is part of the Redland Hospital Expansion Project, with a phased opening planned from early June.
