Logan’s Paediatric Rapid Assessment Clinic (PRAC) has a new home, providing a calmer environment for personalised follow-up care for children.

Now operating from a dedicated space within Meadowbrook Health Centre’s Minor Injury and Illness Clinic, PRAC offers expert assessment, treatment and advice for children following discharge from the Emergency Department (ED).

Logan Paediatric Emergency Department Director Dr Nandini Choudhury said PRAC helped bridge the gap between ED discharge and follow-up with a child’s regular healthcare provider.

“Patients are not always able to secure a GP appointment within a short timeframe, and PRAC helps fill that gap,” Dr Choudhury said.

ED Paediatric Staff Specialist Dr Luisa Orellana (pictured) said the new location, staffed by doctors and nurse practitioners with specialist paediatric emergency training, made it even easier for families to access timely care.

“The ED can be a daunting place for children, so providing follow-up care away from the hospital environment can help them feel more at ease,” she said. “It also means our youngest and most vulnerable patients can receive care in a dedicated setting with less contact with other hospital patients.”

The move to Meadowbrook has also created a more streamlined experience for families.

“With pharmacy and radiology services available on site, children can often access scans, medications and follow-up care in the one location," Dr Orellana said. “This reduces the need for multiple appointments and supports more coordinated care."
