There isn't a better day on the calendar to celebrate our extraordinary midwives than International Day of the Midwife, and this year staff from across the health service recognised these skilled professionals who support mothers, babies and families through life’s key moments.
Director of Nursing and Midwifery Amanda Garner said the day was an opportunity to recognise, honour and uplift the extraordinary work midwives do every day.
“Midwives stand beside people at one of life’s most powerful thresholds…birth,” she said. “In that space, they are not only clinicians, but advocates, educators, protectors and a steady presence in moments families will remember forever.”
Amanda said this year’s global campaign focused on urging governments to invest in the education, employment and retention of midwives, with the goal of building a stronger workforce that provides safe, respectful and high-quality maternity care.
“Midwifery is not simply a profession, it is a commitment to dignity, respect and care,” she said.
Congratulations to the Graduate Midwife of the Year winner Isobel Dahler, and the Midwife of the Year winner, Cassandra Hockley.
“Their recognition reflects the compassion, professionalism and commitment we see across our midwifery teams every day."
