Shae is a Midwife at Redland Hospital, providing care to local First Nations families across pregnancy, birth and beyond.

Originally from Mount Gambier in South Australia, Shae’s path into midwifery started with her own experience.

“No matter how many babies I help bring into the world, the miracle of birth never ceases to amaze me," she said. “I decided to become a midwife after the birth of my second child, when a student midwife supported me during my pregnancy and birth."

Fifteen years ago, Shae began at Redland Hospital as a student. Today, she’s part of a small, dedicated team of four midwives who provide on-call care often supporting families through multiple pregnancies.

“We often care for families across multiple pregnancies, which makes the work really special.”

For Shae, it’s the relationships and the moments that matter most.

“Being a midwife is more than just a job; it requires passion, dedication and resilience,” she said.
“Having the privilege of caring for a young family through all three of their babies, and watching them grow from young adults into parents, is incredibly rewarding.”

Shae said her team was a big part of what made the job so meaningful.

“My colleagues are like a second family. We support each other through both the highs and the lows.”

Last week we celebrated International Day of the Midwife. Thanks to all our Women’s and Children’s teams for the difference you make to the Redlands Coast community!
