Lisa’s Lunches Logan is providing palliative care boxes to hospitals across Metro South Health, including Bayside Health Service, to support patients and families during end-of-life care.

Lisa’s Lunches Logan's President Kylee Brehmer said the Logan-based organisation provided a few kind comforts to patients and their carers during the difficult palliative care journey.

“If someone’s medical condition deteriorates quickly, people often haven’t had time to think about practical items," she said. “The boxes provide essentials such as toiletries, snacks, socks, and a few little comforts that can make a big difference to their stay.

“We’re called Lisa’s Lunches because the Ipswich organisation evolved from providing lunch packs to families that are on a cancer journey that had school-aged children and expanded to provide thoughtful packages for the relatives and loved ones of palliative care patients during COVID,” she said.

"My sister Deanna Richares and I were looking for a way to give back to the Palliative Care Ward at the Logan Hospital after the exceptional care our mum received before her passing in 2021.

“We know firsthand how helpful these palliative care boxes would have been if we had one at that time".

Lisa's Lunches Logan now supplies palliative care boxes to six hospitals across the Metro South Health area and is looking to expand to further hospitals.

Stradbroke Ward Clinical Nurse Silia Nuku said the boxes provided practical support for families and complemented the care delivered by staff.

“They offer small comforts that can ease some of the immediate stress for patients and loved ones,” she said.
