One moment George Jones was lining-up a shot at the snooker table and the next, he was being rushed to Redland Hospital with a life-threatening heart problem.

Now recovering, George and his wife Sue have returned to the hospital to thank the
Emergency Department team who helped save his life.

Emergency Department Medical Officer Dr Matthew Morris said George required urgent surgery and was transferred to Princess Alexandra Hospital.

“He had a CT scan of his chest which showed a tear in the line of a vessel coming out of his heart, his aorta, which is a major medical emergency,” he said.

“We quickly contacted the PA and arranged an emergency transfer with the Queensland Ambulance Service.

"It’s been fantastic to see George back here today," he said.

Mr Jones said he had very little memory of the life-altering events.

“I remember playing snooker, then waking up in the Princess Alexandra Hospital and nothing in between,” he said. “But I know from whoa to go, I got the red-carpet treatment.

“It’s a shame staff don’t get more praise; they do a wonderful job.”

Mrs Jones said the care George received from both the Redland and PA Hospital teams was exceptional.

“The care that’s here, and that he’s getting afterwards, it’s amazing. We’ll never forget it,” she said.
