Nearly 60 volunteers are helping make Redland Hospital a more welcoming place for patients, families and staff, with their contribution recognised during National Volunteer Week.
Director of Allied Health Michael Harris thanked volunteers for the extraordinary contribution they make across Bayside Health Service every day.
“Our volunteers are often the friendly face people first meet when they arrive at hospital,” Mr Harris said.
“They help patients find their way around, support families during difficult times and bring kindness and connection to our hospital community.”
Redland Hospital’s Auxiliary team operates the Koala Kiosk seven days a week, including public holidays, while also helping keep staff fuelled with red frogs on busy days.
Across the hospital, volunteers assist with everything from folding brochures and stamping envelopes through to supporting renal patients with hand and foot massages to improve comfort during treatment.
Hospital chaplains have also conducted more than 3000 visits over the past year, providing emotional and spiritual support to patients, families and staff.
Mr Harris said volunteers played an important role in creating a positive experience for patients.
“The care they provide through small acts of kindness can make a really difficult day a little easier,” he said.
