Local children and families have spoken and Australian baby animals were the overwhelming choice for a Minor Injury and Illness Clinic makeover to transform the Redlands Satellite Health Centre space for young patients.
Clinical Nurse Michelle Allen-Geeraerts, who spent more than 20 years in emergency nursing before joining the Minor Injury and Illness Clinic, said it was normal for children to feel scared in healthcare settings.
“When children feel anxious in healthcare settings, small changes can make a big difference,” she said. “Making this space more welcoming, calm, and engaging can really help during stressful times.”
Michelle led the project that surveyed 50 families whose feedback inspired the choice of new artwork.
“Our team’s greatest strengths are our experience, adaptability, and commitment to the community,” she said. “Our willingness to listen and work together has helped create a better experience for children and families.”
“Enhancing quality care doesn’t always require big changes. “Sometimes simple ideas can make a big difference for patients.”
