Bayside Health Service was proud to be part of Queensland’s largest health careers event, the GOHealth Careers Expo, held on 18 June at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Security, catering and operational services staff attended to represent Bayside, joining the wider Metro South Health team to showcase the many career pathways available in health.

Angeline Ng, Senior Consultant Diversity and Employment, said the variety of staff reflected the importance of all roles in keeping a health service running.

“Health isn’t just doctors and nurses, it’s a team effort,” Angeline said. “We want young people to see that whether you're passionate about science, helping people, food, problem-solving, or working with your hands, there’s a place for you in health.”

The expo was attended by more than 3000 students and was aimed at helping them explore both clinical and non-clinical health careers.

Food Services Manager Tara Stevenson said the expo was also a great opportunity to showcase food, operational, and safety and response services to students.

“A lot of students were interested as we shared our own experiences with past staff who have completed university studies in health while working in support services then moving to a career like nursing,” she said. “Also, the benefits of working in support services where pay rates are very attractive to students was well received. It was a great day, and we hope that it sparked some interest.”

Assistant Manager Operational Services Amy Flanagan said the GOHealth Expo was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the vital roles of non-clinical support services and the important part these roles play within the health sector.

“Many students showed genuine interest,” she said. “It was wonderful to share stories, laugh and connect with students about their current studies and interests.

“We hope it inspired students to consider the many diverse and essential career pathways available in health.”
