Mountview Alpacas’ resident charm squad Noodles and Splash stopped by to brighten the day for patients, families and staff.
Redland Hospital patient John Mackerell was happy to star alongside the alpacas.
The fluffy visitors wandered through the hospital foyers, spreading smiles, and posing for photos.
“Now, this is the personal first,” he said.
“I've never met an alpaca before!
“It’s a better way to pass the day than being in bed, that’s for sure,” he said.
Clinical Nurse Consultant Team Leader Gerry Milligan said the team jumped at the opportunity when Mountview Alpacas offered to visit during National Palliative Care Week.
“Healthcare can be incredibly busy and emotional, so seeing the joy these animals brought to people was really special,” Gerry said.
“They absolutely brightened the day of everyone in the hospital. You could see people instantly relax and smile.”
The alpacas also paid a special visit to one of Bayside’s palliative care patients and her son.
Clinical Nurse Consultant Sue Collis said Bill told her it made his mum’s day and brought some comfort during a difficult time.
“Moments like this remind us that palliative care is about more than medicine,” she said.
“It’s about connection, comfort and helping people find joy where we can.”
National Palliative Care Week recognises the importance of compassionate, person-centred care for people living with life-limiting illness, while supporting families through some of life’s most difficult moments.
