How we help patients

Our pharmacists work with you and your medical team to make sure you are getting the right medicines.

They will:

  • Check your medicine history, including allergies, or adverse reactions you may have had
  • Talk with you about your medicines and answer any questions
  • Give you a list of your medications for your stay
  • Provide any prescribed medicines you need during your stay
  • Give you information to help you understand what each medicine does
  • Make sure you know how and when to take your medicines when you get home
  • Review your medicines to make sure they’re right for you and safe to take together.

Our pharmacists can only dispense medicines prescribed by a Queensland Health doctor. They cannot accept GP scripts or escripts.

Paying for medicines

If you are an outpatient or need medicine when you leave hospital, you will need to pay for your medication. They will give you an invoice with your medicine or post it to your home address.

Please let staff know if you have a concession card or if your address has changed. (They don’t accept cash payments).

Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples may be able to get medicines at a reduced price. Talk to our pharmacy team when you give them your prescription.

Under the Queensland Health non-return policy, medications dispensed and removed from the hospital environment cannot be returned for a refund. Patients are requested to check with their doctor or pharmacist that their dispensed medications are correct before leaving hospital.
