Five-year-old Valentina Davey made some new playmates today during a bedside visit from two of Logan Hospital’s Ward Nannies.

With the young patient unable to leave her hospital room, Nanny’s Lorraine and Diane, equipped with activities and an enthusiastic attitude, brought playtime to her!

Lorraine and Diane are part of the newly expanded Ward Nanny Program covering the Children’s Inpatient Unit, offering families a well-deserved break from bedside duties.

As the Nannies effortlessly chatted with their new friend, they also discussed the type of support they offered within the program.

"We are here to take over the exhausting role of entertaining bed-bound, sick children and we’re willing to do as much or as little as needed to ensure weary families get a break," they said.

"Parents and carers can use the opportunity to rest, shower, race home to feed their pets or change clothes, grab a coffee, find a moment of privacy, or make a phone call, all while knowing their child is being showered with attention."

After spending two nights confined to a hospital room, the Davey family welcomed the Ward Nannies with open arms.

Valentina’s parents Anna and Anton said despite Valentina requiring frequent and often lengthy hospital stays, it could be a struggle to keep her boredom at bay.

The Davey’s said they enjoyed watching their confident daughter engage in painting with Nanny’s Lorraine and Dianne.

With over 30 years’ experience each working with children, Lorraine and Dianne said they thoroughly enjoyed the visit too.

Logan Hospital welcomed its Ward Nanny program back to the Maternity Inpatient Unit last year and thanks to its popularity has expanded the program to cover more of the Women’s and Children’s Division.

While there is wait list to join this popular program, Logan and Beaudesert Health Service is always looking for more volunteers across a range of roles. If you or anyone you know is interested in becoming a volunteer, please complete the application form available on our website.
