QEII Hospital recently held its inaugural Multidisciplinary Quality Improvement (QI) Symposium, showcasing 32 projects from Allied Health, Nursing, Medical and consumer partnership teams.
Held under the theme ‘One Team, One Goal: Building foundations and advancing quality improvement together’, the symposium showcased how quality improvement is being embedded into everyday practice across QEII to improve care for patients.
Director of Clinical Governance QEII Anna Greig said the symposium showcased how QI initiatives across the hospital are embedded in business-as-usual activities, driving meaningful improvements for both staff and patients.
“The day really filled my cup, showcasing and celebrating the incredible work our clinicians are doing at QEII to continually improve patient care,” said Anna.
“We all have a role to play in identifying opportunities to do things better and sharing what we learn.”
“Anyone can participate in quality improvement, regardless of their role, experience or level within the organisation,”
Among the projects showcased Anna highlighted the Early Analgesia in Hip Fracture project, presented by Dr Amelia Aspin, as an example of simple, data-driven and person-centred improvement. Also mentioned was the joint presentation by Maria Duong and Ceila Lane centred around Advanced Allied Health Assistant project supporting patients with behavioural support needs.
“The compassion and dignity demonstrated in Maria and Ceila’s project brought home such an important aspect of patient care – time, presence and compassion,” she said.
Director of Medical Services Alison Ryan said that the symposium is a reminder that when clinicians are pressed for time due to caseloads, roles like the Advanced Allied Health Assistants are a valuable resource to provide connection to patients.
“During our busy work life and particularly the pressures of winter, this event was such a positive and uplifting reminder to celebrate the incredible improvements our teams are making in day-to-day care of patients at QEII.
“I want to acknowledge the effort that went into this program from the organising group to the attendees and the presenters on the day.”
“It was truly inspiring to witness how committed and innovative our people are.”
The symposium also marks the launchpad for the QEII Quality Improvement Collaborative, which will bring together staff interested in QI to collaborate, network, share knowledge and resources, and support one another.
