It’s people first for QEII’s Emergency Department (ED) Administration Team, who bring over 120 years of combined experience to QEII’s front line operation.
Balancing efficiency with compassion, the team works around the clock to connect patients with timely emergent care pathways.
Senior Admin Officer Dani Stergou says the team’s strength is in their collaborative approach that drives patient outcomes and keeps the team one step ahead in the busy ED.
“Our greatest strength as a team is that we all work very well together. Everyone is more than happy to assist their teammates. There are a lot of moving parts we have to stay on top of, so being organised is always a priority,” she explained.
“It’s all about attention to detail, thinking on your feet and always thinking ahead about what’s potentially coming,” she said.
The team’s expertise shines through their professionalism and organisational skills under pressure, while handling every new presentation with compassion.
“It’s a very experienced Emergency team. Some of our staff members have been here for 20 or 25 years, so they’ve seen everything,” Dani explained.
“What’s great about working in the Emergency Department is there’s never a dull moment and every day is different.”
The team’s exemplary people-centred commitment has earned them a shortlisted nomination for the 2024 Metro South Health People Focus Award.
“As admin, we’re used to working in the background and we often don’t get recognised, so it was a nice surprise to be nominated,” she said.
Their nomination cited the team’s far-reaching impact on patient care, from presentation to admission.
The Emergency Department Administration Team continually provides a quality service and showcase their individual iCare Values, across the 24/7 spectrum where we see patients presenting with differing medical complaints, from abdominal pains to heart conditions, cuts and bruises to COVID and influenza A, from the early morning hours in ED right up until the clock ticks past midnight. Their disciplined ethic and unwavering support to the nursing and medical staff is a tribute to the QEII Hospital and we thank each and every one in the team, sincerely for their efforts.
There is a cohort of administration officers within the Emergency Department whose service equals more than 120 years of combined experience with the QEII ED alone. Their amazing feat is obvious through their professionalism when dealing with the patients, their families, and the clinical teams and the new members of the team who are being given the benefit of learning from those pioneers of the department and whose dedication to the service will be felt long after they are gone.
Congratulations on this honour and thank you for your service to the QEII community, team!
