The bonded and motivated Ward 2B team at Princess Alexandra Hospital is proving every day that the mission to provide amazing care to a diverse cohort of orthopaedic patients is founded in team strength and consistent support for each other.
The demanding inpatient ward admits both major trauma patients and elective surgical patients from diverse backgrounds, and Nurse Unit Manager, Leanne McWilliam says this presents unique circumstances and a wide range of care needs to be considered for every patient.
“The nursing team manage these complexities with exceptional professionalism and genuine compassion as they strive for excellence in their daily practice.
“Supporting such a diverse group of individuals through one of the most significant health journeys of their lives is both a privilege and a challenge,” she said.
With extensive expertise in trauma and spinal care, the team remains dedicated to delivering personalised, patient‑centred care to each individual who comes through the ward.
This team excel at showing genuine compassion and strong de-escalation skills. They understand the potential of an emotional overload for the patient, a cognitive issue, or an inability to articulate pain.
“It is truly a privilege to work alongside a team whose core values shine through in the way they show up wholeheartedly for their patients and for each other,” said Leanne.
Ward 2B was awarded the PAH staff award for December 2025 for their incredible strength, calm and compassionate care.
