The community is rallying together as loved ones ensure the memory of their wife, mother, and friend is never forgotten.
“Lisa’s Lunches was started in 2019 after my good friend Lisa Heuston died of cancer,” said founder and volunteer Jacqui Martin.
“From her journey we realised that young families have very little support in the cancer space.”
While the charity began by making lunch packs, it’s since evolved to include Palliative Care boxes to provide some sense of normality to the family of a patient nearing end of life.
They were introduced at Logan Hospital and recently rolled out at PA Hospital as well.
“The boxes are for families on a bedside vigil when they come in with their loved ones unexpectedly, because they often arrive with nothing,” said Jacqui.
“Inside the boxes are all the essentials including toiletries, snacks, socks, and a few comforts so they feel human.
“Families have told us that it’s extremely helpful during a really hard time in their life.”
All items are donated by members of the community, and volunteers say they are immensely grateful for the generosity which has enabled them to support families of Logan and PAH.
