The PA Hospital Expansion Project has reached another exciting construction milestone, with the final large concrete slab pour now complete on the roof of the fifth floor.
By the time construction is finished, the project will have used around 5,170 cubic metres of concrete across the structure. To put that into perspective, that’s the equivalent of over 500 concrete truckloads or enough concrete to pour more than 80 basketball courts.
Each slab pour has been a carefully coordinated effort, with around 40 concrete trucks arriving on average for each major pour to keep the concrete flowing and ensure the slabs are placed efficiently and safely.
While a few smaller concrete pours remain, completing the final large pour on top of the highest floor is a significant step forward as the project moves toward the topping-out (completion of the structural phase) milestone.
Noelene Herbert, Metro South Health, Senior Director for the Expansion Project, said the milestone reflects the strong collaboration between teams working on the project.
“Completing the final large concrete pour on our highest level is a significant moment for the project," she said.
"It’s the result of careful planning and the hard work of many teams working together to keep construction progressing safely and efficiently.
"With topping out on the horizon, it’s exciting to see the building really taking shape.”
This achievement highlights the continued progress of the expansion and the collective effort of project partners, construction teams and hospital staff supporting the work.
